INVESTIGATIVE SUMMER SCIENCE PROGRAM
Monday, June 17 – Thursday, June 27, 2019 hosted on the campus of Newman University in Wichita, KS (www.newmanu.edu) The Investigative Summer Science Program (ISSP) is designed to enhance enthusiasm and interest of rising high school juniors and seniors in the sciences and motivate them through exploration and testing of ideas for careers in the sciences. Each student will select one interdisciplinary research topic from biology, chemistry, and math. Then the student will conduct a literature search on the selected topics, set-up laboratory/field experiments, collect data, analyze the results, draw conclusions from the findings, and, finally, present the research to faculty and students. Supervision and project background information will be provided by the program faculty in one-to-one and small group discussion format, rather than traditional lectures. Field trips and guest lecturers will be scheduled during the program to provide participants with real life applications of science and math. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA with demonstrated success (grades) in math and science courses. There is a cost to participate in this program, but it will be covered by CRKC (through a grant). **Must commit to attending the full two-week program in its entirety.** CRKC will provide transportation to and from Newman University, if needed. Interested students should schedule time to speak with Ms. Hart before school, Advisory, or during AST – no later than Thursday, April 18. The application deadline is Saturday, May 4.
